📌North Macedonia is a well-kept secret among powder-hungry adventurers. The big mountains and lack of infrastructure is a recipe for a great ski-touring holiday. Surrounded by sea, the mountains in the Balkan Peninsula get a great amount of snow, and you can plan an adventurous and fun ski holiday in untouched and pristine nature, where fresh lines will be served daily.

📌Using the small local ski centres as a base—in Popova Shapka and Mavrovo, for instance—one can access the backcountry for high mountains with gentle ridges, which offer you the possibility to cover large terrain and find fresh lines with ease.

📍The Shar mountains are the biggest mountain range in the middle Balkan peninsula. The mountain is around 80 km long and around 20 km vide. The name comes from the latin name Scardus, but today it also means the colorful mountain. Home to over 1800 plant species, and many rare animals, the mountain range goes through three countries, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania.

📍The biggest ski center on this mountain is Popova Shapka. In yugoslav times, it was celebrated to be one of the best ski centers in Yugoslavia. Today, you can still sense the old glory of this ski center, but it is now a small ski center with old infrastructure. This made Popova Shapka to be a preferred destination for adventure seekers and freeride skiers from all over the world. The old but big chairlifts lift you up to 2450 m, and a big untracked terrain opens up for you. The mountain saddles are wide and gentle, but you can choose to ski narrow couloirs, steep meadows, canals or gentle ridges. With a little effort of touring, we exit the area of the ski centre, and have the whole mountain for ourselves.

FOR THE 1ST TIME IN OUR SCHEDULE – SAFARI CATSKIING – For 2 days we’ll ride the top peaks and best faces on Shar Mountains in Kosovo- Brezovica.

📍Brezovica is one of the most visited winter tourist destinations in Kosovo. The ski resort area is ideally situated on the north and northwest-facing slopes of the Šar Mountains National Park. The ridge line spans 39,000 hectares of high alpine mountain terrain and forests, with a highly diverse and abundant flora and fauna. Located within 90 minutes of two international airports, the Brezovica resort area represents one of the last remaining wild and under-developed ski resort areas in Southeast Europe.
